Barksdale has been a remarkably consistent, high-performing elementary school over the past four years, earning an ‘A-’ and ‘A’ from Plano School Reviews in that time. Just over half (51%) of Brinker’s STAAR scores greatly exceeded basic state standards, indicating a high percentage of talented and committed students. Nearly three-quarters (74%) of the scores met state standards, and only 7% of STAAR scores failed to meet the grade-level expectations created by the state of Texas. Beyond Barksdale’s impressive academic performance, one statistic to consider is its unusually high mobility rate at 19.3% (up from 11.3% the year before). This means that nearly 1 in 5 students enrolled or withdrew from Barksdale last year, and a rate of change that high can place greater demands on teachers and students alike.
