School Summary
PISD started an Elementary IB (International Baccalaureate) program at Huffman in 2018-19. The IB program is broader and more academically demanding than most traditional curricula, and the district is trying to attract talented students throughout Plano to enroll. Huffman’s standardized scores jumped significantly in 2018-19, with the number of test scores meeting state standards improving from 32 to 43%. Even with this increase, Huffman is still below the Texas state average (50%) and substantially below Plano ISD’s average (65%). Another noteworthy statistic is Huffman’s mobility rate (22.5%), which represents a challenge for teachers and students alike as so many students enroll and withdraw from the school in a given school year. From 2015-2018, Huffman was PISD’s lowest performing elementary school and earned an ISD SchoolSearch ranking of ‘D’. Huffman graduates join three strong elementary schools in feeding into Renner Middle School, and then they move on to Shepton High and Plano West Senior High.
